NOVAALAB Review: Red Light Therapy Devices, Claims and Evidence

NovaaLab sells red light therapy pads and devices with a 60-day refund promise. We compared its marketing with what a major medical centre says about the evidence, and what we could not verify.

This guide is a research-based review, not a hands-on test. We have not bought or used a NovaaLab device. Everything below comes from the store's own pages, customer-review platforms and a medical source, each linked, and we say plainly where we could not confirm something. Nothing here is medical advice.

Red light therapy has moved from clinics into living rooms. NovaaLab is one of the brands selling it directly to consumers, mainly as wearable pads and handheld devices. Because the product touches on health, this review looks at two things separately: whether the store looks trustworthy to buy from, and whether the claims it makes are backed up.

What NovaaLab actually sells#

The homepage lists several device types. At the time we looked:

  • Targeted devices: Light Pad ($349.90), Knee Ultra ($269.90), Light Switch ($339.90) and Light Boot ($369).

  • Back and large-area pads: Back Pad ($369) and Deep Healing Pad XL ($599.90).

  • Oral care: Oral Care Pro ($169.90) and a Sonic Toothbrush ($99.90).

  • Full-body: the Recovery Pod, at $2,500.

Prices change, and the store runs promotions, so check the live page.

How this review was made#

We read the NovaaLab homepage and its menu text, then looked at its Trustpilot page and a medical overview from Cleveland Clinic. We did not order a device, test it, contact support or try a return. We tried to read the return policy page and the warranty details but could not load them, so we describe only what is written on the homepage.

The guarantee#

The homepage presents a three-part promise: use the product daily for 28 days and, if you feel no difference, the store takes it back; a 60-day window to return it for any reason with a full refund, described as having no forms; and, if the product breaks, a replacement within one year. Free shipping on US orders is also mentioned.

This is the best reason to consider the store. A long no-questions return window lowers the risk of buying a device you may not find useful. What we could not see is the fine print: whether you pay to ship it back, whether used devices are accepted in the same condition, and what the one-year replacement excludes. Ask before you order and keep the confirmation email.

What customers say#

On Trustpilot the company holds roughly 4.5 out of 5 from more than 4,000 reviews at the time we looked. Positive reviewers praise the build quality, ease of setup, and responsive customer service. The negative comments we saw summarized mention delayed orders, problems with the ordering process, and a few faulty products or devices that stopped working after a short period. Those are common complaints for any online seller, and they are worth knowing about because the refund promise is the main protection against them.

The claims versus the evidence#

This is where we would be most careful as a buyer.

The homepage says that red light therapy can accelerate healing, reduce inflammation and pain, support recovery after surgery and give fast pain relief. It also mentions weight loss and body contouring: a navigation menu item reads "For Weight Loss Support Body Contouring and Metabolic Health". The site also cites "more than 3,000 clinical studies" and its own observational figures, such as 94.7% of customers noticing improvement. That last figure comes from the company itself, and we could not see how it was gathered.

Cleveland Clinic's overview is more cautious. It says red light therapy is promoted for skin conditions such as wrinkles, acne and scars, and is being studied for joint pain and other uses, but that evidence is still limited: many studies are small, lack placebo controls, or were not done in people. It says home devices may be less powerful than those used by dermatologists, and it states that no scientific evidence supports claims about weight loss, cancer treatment or mental health benefits.

Read side by side, the pain-relief and recovery claims are in the area researchers are still studying, while the weight-loss claim goes beyond what that source supports. We are not saying the devices do nothing; we are saying the evidence is weaker than the marketing implies, so go in with modest expectations.

FDA status#

Third-party articles say NovaaLab's pads are FDA-cleared, and note that "cleared" is not the same as "approved" and does not guarantee results. However, we found no FDA wording or medical disclaimer on the homepage, and we could not confirm a clearance number ourselves. If it matters to you, search the FDA's 510(k) database for the specific device, or ask the store for the clearance number. The US Federal Trade Commission has published guidance on health-product claims and false guarantees, which is worth reading before buying any health device.

Price and value#

A single pad at about $350 and a full-body pod at $2,500 are a real investment for something with limited evidence. The refund window is what makes the first purchase reasonable. We would not buy the most expensive item without having tried a cheaper one first.

Who should buy, and who should not#

Buy from NovaaLab if you are curious about red light therapy, you understand the evidence is still developing, and you will actually test it within the return window.

Look elsewhere if you want a treatment for a medical condition, expect weight loss, or would not send a product back if it did not work. See a doctor for anything that needs treatment.

The verdict#

NovaaLab looks like a well-rated seller with an unusually generous guarantee, and that guarantee is the main reason to buy. The health claims on its site are bolder than the medical source we checked, and we could not verify the regulatory details. Treat it as a low-risk way to try red light therapy only if you will really use the return window. The discount codes below may lower the price, but they do not change that.
